Energy SIG

Greetings from the NSBE Energy SIG!

As we begin planning for the next year, we are still very much excited about the potential of the Energy SIG. Thanks to the many members who saw the vision of what the Energy SIG will be and contributed toward growing us in the right direction.

Future of Energy SIG

From an organizational perspective, we began making key connections with others in our field, such as the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), and presenting our story to companies such as Southern Company, Duke Energy and Pacific Gas & Electric. Our efforts extend beyond the United States: we are now working with NSBE Executive Director Karl W. Reid, Ed.D., on a great program partnering the energy expertise within NSBE with growing technology entrepreneurs in Africa, in a program initiated by the U.S. State Department. Stay tuned!  More information about this initiative will be coming soon.

One area fundamental for the Energy SIG is building a communal space that encourages dialogue and growth in our field. We look forward to continuing to use NSBECONNECT as the platform to share ideas, publicize events and help us get further connected. Thanks to the groundwork we laid this year, you’ll also see more collaborations with companies in our industry. From talking about career opportunities to just sharing their take on the industry, you’ll definitely see a greater corporate engagement in the future. We also look forward to doing more regional mixers, too! Atlanta, Houston, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco: we are coming your way!!  If you would like to help host an Energy SIG mixer, please send us an email at energydirector@nsbe.org .

Please feel free to contact the Energy SIG director at energydirector@nsbe.org. Here’s to a brighter future that is connected, efficient and strong!

Information regarding the Open Enrollment Campaign

We open enrollment for the new membership cycle on May 1st each year which will allow members an additional 2 months to renew and receive benefits. Please note that membership subscriptions are not prorated. However, if you plan on renewing your membership mid-year to qualify for registration discounts or other benefits, that is fine. However, please be aware that renewing a membership following the Annual Convention will only grant you a subscription that lasts for only a month or less. We strongly recommend waiting until May 1st to maximize your investment.
