About

Join the Community Improvement Initiative (CII), a dynamic partnership with CE Corps that empowers NSBE members to harness their technical and professional skills for real change. Through CII, members collaborate with communities to engineer solutions for pressing needs that lack funding. By tackling projects in lower-income areas, we’re not only enhancing living conditions but also inspiring the next generation in STEM. Under the TORCH program, we’re committed to fostering compassion and nurturing future leaders.

If you’re eager to volunteer or know a community in need, contact nebtorch@nsbe.org.

Community Criteria

This provides information to communities that need improvement projects for their community but do not have the financial means to complete them.

Volunteer Process

The information linked below explains how to volunteer to be a part of the CII project team. This program is a great way to serve volunteer hours, add experience to your resume, and learn from professionals, while being given resources to successfully complete projects!

Black Excellence Engineered

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.
The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.
The membership fee is nonrefundable. By submitting your membership application, you acknowledge that the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) World Headquarters office is not liable for the collection or refund of any chapter-related fees. These additional fees may include chapter dues and/or tuition.

If you have any questions, please contact NSBE's Membership and Registration team at membership@nsbe.org.

Information regarding the Open Enrollment Campaign

We open enrollment for the new membership cycle on May 1st each year which will allow members an additional 2 months to renew and receive benefits. Please note that membership subscriptions are not prorated. However, if you plan on renewing your membership mid-year to qualify for registration discounts or other benefits, that is fine. However, please be aware that renewing a membership following the Annual Convention will only grant you a subscription that lasts for only a month or less. We strongly recommend waiting until May 1st to maximize your investment.
