Technical Outreach Community Help (TORCH), NSBE's flagship community service program, harnesses the technical expertise of our members to ignite positive change within our communities.

About

TORCH is an umbrella program of NSBE focused on outreach activities that impact non-NSBE members and NSBE members, especially pre-college youth in the Black community. TORCH’s signature initiative includes A Walk for Education, asingle-day outreach activity aimed at encouraging youth to be better prepared for higher educational opportunities in STEM fields, and in general.

Activities to support TORCH programming include:

STEM Community Training

Formal classroom-style education in STEM fields aimed at both youth and adults

Informal Engineering & Education

Casual outreach activities, targeted at youth, which aim to show how science & engineering can be fun.

Technical Expertise Services

Using our technical skills to provide a direct service to the community.

Traditional Community Service Activities

Any other type of community service: food & clothing drives, volunteering at a shelter.

To learn more about TORCH, please contact the National TORCH Chair, NEBTorch@nsbe.org.

Black Excellence Engineered

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.
The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.
The membership fee is nonrefundable. By submitting your membership application, you acknowledge that the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) World Headquarters office is not liable for the collection or refund of any chapter-related fees. These additional fees may include chapter dues and/or tuition.

Information regarding the Open Enrollment Campaign

We open enrollment for the new membership cycle on May 1st each year which will allow members an additional 2 months to renew and receive benefits. Please note that membership subscriptions are not prorated. However, if you plan on renewing your membership mid-year to qualify for registration discounts or other benefits, that is fine. However, please be aware that renewing a membership following the Annual Convention will only grant you a subscription that lasts for only a month or less. We strongly recommend waiting until May 1st to maximize your investment.
