Try-Math-A-Lon

Try-Math-A-Lon (TMAL) is a tutoring program meant to foster good study habits for minority students, help prepare for standardized test exams such as the ACT and SAT, and promote competition and good sportsmanship.

About

The TMAL competition is held between teams composed of high school students in grades 9-12. The purpose of the competition is to help groom TMAL team members for success in STEM courses and prepare them for standardized SAT/ACT testing.

TMAL consists of three components:

  1. Regional Conference Competitions1.
  2. Performance Assessment Test (PAT)2.
  3. National Convention Quiz Bowl

The TMAL rules should be used to guide TMAL coaches/advisors in preparation for the three components of the program. TMAL coaches/advisors are encouraged to prepare their teams as early as possible and share TMAL preparatory materials with other math, science, or technology professionals who may be able to assist TMAL teams with competition preparation. TMAL coaching can begin as early as the start of the school year through March of the next year.

Black Excellence Engineered

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.
The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.

The membership fee is $5 annually. There may be additional chapter and regional dues you have to pay to be considered a fully active member.
If you choose not to be affiliated with a chapter in your local area, you will be considered a member “At-Large," classified by your geographical region. Members At-Large receive the same national benefits as those who belong to a chapter.
