Letters from
the NSBE Leadership

Greetings Vanguard Region,

My name is Chiedza Dinga, and I am honored to serve as your Region V Chairperson for the National Society of Black Engineers. I’m a Computer Science major at the University of North Texas.

As someone who’s served in almost every zone, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how each part of this organization functions. With a deep specialization in Communications, I’ve learned how powerful our messaging, storytelling, and visibility can be. But more importantly, I’ve seen how powerful we are when we move as one.

The Body of Region V
This year, I want us to think of Region V as a living, thriving body—where every zone plays a vital role in keeping us strong. Programs is the heart, pumping life through the region by offering dynamic, skill-building opportunities that keep us growing. Comms is the face, shaping how we’re seen, heard, and remembered through storytelling, graphics, and consistent messaging. Admin is the brain, coordinating our efforts, adjusting strategies, and ensuring every zone works in sync based on insight and feedback. Membership is the hands, always reaching out to uplift and guide our people, making sure members are welcomed, supported, and seen. And Finance is the veins, channeling the resources—the lifeblood—that fund our scholarships, conferences, and chapter initiatives. When each part operates with intention and alignment, Region V becomes more than just a network—it becomes a powerful region with impact, connection, and purpose. That’s the kind of unity I want to build this year.

So, what does that look like? Let’s break it down.

Pivoting
This year, Region V must adapt, evolve, and lead with creativity. We’re building a region that doesn’t just respond to change—it anticipates it. We’ll encourage each zone to pilot new ideas, share wins, and create scalable models that other chapters can learn from. Innovation is our standard.

Opportunity
Every member deserves access to tools that support their growth. That means we’ll increase visibility of resources, expand pipelines for leadership, and ensure no member—regardless of classification, major, or status—is left behind.

Waymaking
We’re creating clear, intentional paths from NSBE Jr. to Professionals. Through integrated programming and cross-collaboration, we’ll show members what it looks like to thrive at every stage. Growth doesn’t stop—it evolves.

Empowerment
This is the heartbeat of P.O.W.E.R. We’ll deliver toolkits, workshops, and digital resources that equip members to lead—on campus, at work, and in life. You won’t have to wait until you’ve graduated to make an impact. You’ll start now.

Retention
Power means nothing without sustainability. We’re focusing on connection, consistency, and community to ensure members stay engaged and invested in their NSBE experience. We’ll check in, show up, and stay present.

Region V is called the Vanguard for a reason. We don’t just follow—we lead. This year, when you hear “HOW DEEP?”, I want your response to be more than tradition—I want it to be a reminder of just how far we’re willing to go to leave our legacy.

Whether you’re a freshman discovering NSBE for the first time or a seasoned leader preparing for life after graduation—there’s space for you here. And I promise, your growth, your voice, and your goals matter in this region.

Let’s make this a year of Region V Power—shared, built, and passed on

Don’t Miss the Opportunity to Elevate Yourself and Connect with the Best

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.
