Letters from
the NSBE Leadership

Greetings, Vanguard Region!

My name is Fiyinfoluwa Adeleye, though most people know me as Fiyin. I am honored to serve as your Region V Chairperson for the National Society of Black Engineers.

When I think about Region V, I think about the people who built this community before us and the responsibility we have to continue that work. From PCI to collegiate to professional members, we are connected by a shared commitment to excellence, leadership, and service.

This year, our work will be guided by four pillars: Legacy, Innovation, Impact, and Elevation.

Legacy reminds us where we come from. We stand on the work of Black engineers who created opportunities, built communities, and invested in those coming behind them. We will honor that history while thinking about what we are building for the next generation.

Innovation challenges us to think differently. As engineers, we are problem solvers. Region V should be a place where members can explore emerging technologies, research, and new ideas while sharing what works across our chapters and zones.

Impact asks us to make our work matter. We will continue strengthening chapter support, building meaningful programs, and connecting our PCI, collegiate, and professional communities. Success should not only be measured by what we accomplish, but by the people and communities who benefit from our work.

Elevation reminds us that we do not grow alone. Through mentorship, leadership development, and stronger connections across Region V, we will create opportunities for members to learn from one another and bring others forward with them.

These pillars give us direction, but the work belongs to all of us. Whether you are attending your first NSBE event, leading a chapter, or giving back as a professional, you have a place in this region.

Legacy grounds us. Innovation advances us. Impact defines us. Elevation carries us forward.

Together, let us leave Region V stronger than we found it and build something worth inheriting.

    Encourage zones to test new ideas and share successful models that evolve and strengthen chapter impact.

    Expand access to underused tools and create targeted outreach to build sustainable leadership pipelines.

    Develop intentional pathways from NSBE Jr. to Professionals through integrated programs and cross-level collaboration.

    Equip members with workshops, toolkits, and actionable resources to lead confidently in their own spheres.

    Establish consistent chapter touchpoints, cross-zone engagement, and systems that ensure leadership continuity and member connection.

Region V is renowned for its vibrant chapters and strong presence in several top colleges and universities in the Midwest and Southern United States, such as Louisiana Tech University, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University of Houston, University of Iowa, University of Missouri, and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The Vanguard Region is a trailblazer in NSBE history, leading the way with numerous pioneering initiatives:

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.


If you choose not to be affiliated with a chapter in your local area, you will be considered a member “At-Large," classified by your geographical region. Members At-Large receive the same national benefits as those who belong to a chapter.

How to renew your membership

  1. Click Renew Action Button
  2. Once you’ve reached your account homepage, click “Renew” on the red banner at the top of your screen or the tab labeled “Memberships/Subscriptions” > “View Inactive Subscriptions” and then “Renew”.
  3. Select a membership item you would like to renew on the next page.
  4. Update your personal information if needed.
  5. Follow the prompts.
  6. Verify the items in your cart for accuracy. If you selected the wrong membership type, please go back and make your changes as needed before completing payment. Membership payments are non-refundable.
  7. Submit.

Information regarding the Open Enrollment Campaign

We open enrollment for the new membership cycle on May 1st each year which will allow members an additional 2 months to renew and receive benefits. Please note that membership subscriptions are not prorated. However, if you plan on renewing your membership mid-year to qualify for registration discounts or other benefits, that is fine. However, please be aware that renewing a membership following the Annual Convention will only grant you a subscription that lasts for only a month or less. We strongly recommend waiting until May 1st to maximize your investment.
