NSBE Region IV, proudly known as the "Mother Region," is where NSBE began, with its first national meeting in 1975 at Purdue University. It produced NSBE’s first National Chair and hosted the first annual convention, playing a key role in building NSBE’s legacy of leadership, academic excellence, and professional success for Black engineers.

Letters from
the NSBE Leadership

Welcome to the Mother Region!

I am A’Dymond Sammons, a graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a first-year Master of Business Administration student at the
University of Cincinnati. It is an incredible honor to serve as your 2026–2027 Region IV Chairperson of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Region IV is the Mother Region—the birthplace of NSBE and the foundation of a legacy that continues to shape generations of engineers, leaders, and changemakers. We honor that legacy not simply by preserving it, but by continuing to build upon it for those who follow.

This year, our regional directive is C.A.R.E.—Community, Advocacy, Realignment, and
Empowerment.

C.A.R.E. is more than a framework—it reflects how we show up for one another and how we continue building a Region that feels connected, intentional, and prepared for the future. My vision is rooted in strengthening what already makes Region IV special while creating opportunities for even greater impact.

Community

Community starts with connection. Region IV should feel like home beyond conferences and major events. This year, we will focus on strengthening relationships across zones, creating more
opportunities for collaboration, increasing engagement between regional and chapter leadership, and ensuring chapters of all sizes feel supported and equipped to succeed.

Advocacy

Advocacy means making sure our resources become real opportunities. Region IV already offers incredible programs, initiatives, and experiences. Our responsibility is to ensure those
opportunities reach our members and create meaningful impact. Through advocacy, we will improve visibility and accessibility of regional opportunities, strengthen follow-through, support
academic and professional growth and continue expanding how we represent and elevate our members.

Realignment

Realignment starts by refining our systems, so our impact lasts. Not every solution requires starting over. Sometimes leadership means improving what already works and creating stronger foundations for those who come after us. We will focus on stronger transitions, clearer documentation, proactive planning, and building sustainable practices that strengthen Region IV long after this term ends. This allows us to move from action to legacy.

Empowerment

Empowerment begins by investing in people. Our greatest strength has always been our members. Through leadership development, collaboration, mentorship, and intentional support, we will continue creating an environment where leaders feel confident, prepared, and encouraged
to lead boldly. By anchoring our work in excellence, we prepare the next generation to carry the mission forward.

As we begin this year together, I invite every member, leader, advisor, and supporter across Region IV to take C.A.R.E.

Connect intentionally.

Advocate boldly.

Realign thoughtfully.

Empower continuously.

The Mother Region has always been powerful because of its people. Together, we have the opportunity to strengthen our foundation, support one another, and continue redefining what Region IV can become.

The legacy continues with us.

Serving with C.A.R.E. and NSBE Love,
A’Dymond Sammons

Don’t Miss the Opportunity to Elevate Yourself and Connect with the Best

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

The NSBE membership year spans August 1 – July 31.
