What is NLC?

The National Leadership Conference (NLC) is an event that brings NSBE national and regional leaders together to further their professional development and share innovative ideas. During this conference, leaders discuss their plans for their time in office. NLC meetings cover topics including strategies and tactics for effective communication, and various patterns of leadership. NLC prepares NSBE regional leaders to train their chapter leaders at the Regional Leadership Conferences (RLCs).

Why is it important for ME?

NLC allows attendees to gain and hone their skills as leaders within NSBE and in life. This conference provides information and training to boost the success of attendees in their NSBE leadership positions, in their academic courses and, ultimately, in their careers.

NSBE’s National Leadership Conference provides training for national and regional leaders of the Society, preparing them for their terms in office and helping them give NSBE members a beneficial, high-quality experience.

Rooms are furnished with queen beds, dresser, desk and closet. Telephone wake-up service can be requested from guest concierge services. All guest rooms have a TV. Linen service and housekeeping service in individual guest rooms are offered by the hotel. All rooms are nonsmoking.

National Leadership Conference Parking

Parking is provided in the hotel garage. When checking-in, please inform the concierge that you have a vehicle in the garage.

Ground Transportation & Parking


O’Hare (ORD) Transportation Options:

  • Ride-Share Services (Uber/Lyft): You can utilize ride-share services available at O'Hare.   The approximate fare from O'Hare to Swissotel Chicago is around $40-$50, and the travel time is approximately 35-45 minutes, depending on traffic.  The estimated cost of a taxi is similar to that of a ride-share, and you can expect a similar travel time.
  • CTA Blue Line Train: For a more budget-friendly option, you can take the CTA Blue Line train from O'Hare Airport to the Clark/Lake station. From there, you can transfer to the Pink Line and get off at the State/Lake station, which is a 14-minute walk from Swissotel Chicago. The total cost is approximately $5, and the travel time is around 45-60 minutes.

Midway (MDW) Transportation Options:

  • Ride-Share Services (Uber/Lyft): You can utilize ride-share services available at Midway O'Hare. The approximate fare from Midway to Swissotel Chicago is around $30-$40, and the travel time is approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.  The estimated cost of a taxi is similar to that of a ride-share, and you can expect a similar travel time.
  • CTA Orange Line Train: For a more budget-friendly option, you can take the CTA Orange Line train from Midway Airport towards the Loop. From there, transfer to the Red Line at Roosevelt station and take it towards Howard.  Get off at the Grand station, which is within a 15-minute walking distance of the Swissotel Chicago. The total cost is approximately $3 one way, and the travel time is around 45-60 minutes.

  • 24-hour self-parking $65/day

Overnight guests will need to add parking charges to their room at check-in. The discounted rate will be applied upon check-out. For local attendees or those needing a daily parking rate, vouchers will be provided by the property.

The Swissotel Chicago offers convenient and secure parking facilities, allowing you to explore the city without worrying about your vehicle. The garage entrance is located at 323 E. Upper Wacker Drive. It is on the south side of E. Upper Wacker Drive just east of N Columbus Drive. You must be traveling east on E Upper Wacker Drive to access the facility. Travel down the ramp immediately after the lobby entrance.


COVID-19 Protocols

The National Society of Black Engineers is committed to the health and safety of meeting and event attendees. NSBE leadership will continue to monitor all state and federal guidelines. NSBE may adjust its approach as needed to ensure a coordinated effort and a safe experience for conference attendees. Please check back frequently for any changing protocols, but there are no current mask requirements for the National Leadership Conference.  NSBE encourages all attendees who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 Booster in addition to being fully vaccinated and strongly encourages individuals to be tested for COVID 19 prior to traveling to the conference.

While Onsite, if you Receive a Positive Test Result or Develop Symptoms:

  • Follow the CDC, federal and Chicago public health protocols.
  • Please visit a COVID-19 testing facility if you believe you have become infected or have had close contact with a COVID-positive individual.
