How Collegiate Members Can Get Involved With PCI

The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program is designed to inspire K–12 students to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by providing them with consistent early exposure to technical competitions, academic development and leadership training.

How can YOU, as a Collegiate member, get involved with PCI?

Become a SEEK mentor.

The Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) is a free, three-week summer program for 3rd–5th grade students.  Students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on engineering projects, to network with collegiate STEM students, to learn of the roles and responsibilities of engineers and to see Black people at work in STEM.  As a mentor, you will be able to collaborate with, teach, instruct and network with SEEK students, while earning a competitive pay.

Host an event and/or long-term program with a local NSBE Jr. chapter.

There are more than 1,000 NSBE Jr. students who would benefit from early STEM exposure by participating in impactful programs such as engineering projects, entrepreneurship seminars and leadership workshops, just to name a few.

Become a PCI leader.

We need leaders to be the voice of PCI students. There are several capacities in which you can gain leadership skills while positively impacting your communities.  Specifically, there are positions such as PCI chapter chair,  regional PCI chair, national PCI chair and national PCI Committee member that are great avenues for you to get involved.

Volunteer with PCI at a conference or convention!

NSBE Jr. students participate in several engineering competitions during NSBE’s Fall Regional Conferences and the Annual Convention.   There are opportunities to help the flow of PCI programming by becoming a convention volunteer.
